CFP: Conspectus- A Journal of English Studies

CJES, the international peer reviewed academic journal of the Department of English, St. Thomas College (Autonomous), Thrissur is inviting research papers for Vol. 19, 2025 edition. CJES has been listed as a refereed journal by the University of Calicut and has been published for more than one and a half decades. It provides a forum for the discussion of various issues related to literature, culture and society and approaches problems in these fields from a number of politically, historically and theoretically informed perspectives.

This year the journal focuses on the theme Kerala Studies, as a continuation of its 17th volume. Submissions may relate to, but not restricted to sub-themes connected to Kerala, such as:

  • Malayalam Literature 
  • Cinema
  • Modernity 
  • Renaissance
  • Folk traditions, Arts and Performance 
  • Bilingual writing 
  • Gender and Ethics 
  • Ecology and Biodiversity 
  • Religion and Politics 
  • Children’s Literature 
  • Little Magazines
  • Dalit Literature
  • Subaltern Perspectives
  • Ethnicity 
  • Migration
  • Tribal Literature
  • Translations Studies
  • Popular Culture and Media

We prefer articles with broader perspectives (related to culture, society, movements, etc.) rather than textual analyses of a particular film or book. CJES does not collect any Article Processing Charges (APC), and acceptance is based purely on merit and quality of the submissions.

Guidelines:

  • The contributors are expected to send original articles that have not been published previously or under consideration for publication while being evaluated for CJES.
  • The abstract of the paper must be sent beforehand (150-200 words, with 5-6 keywords) along with a brief author’s bio (100 words, with Email Id & Phone No.) on or before 30th August 2025. The authors of the selected abstracts shall be notified through email.
  • Full papers must be sent on or before 30th September 2025. Word-limit: Minimum 3000 to Maximum 5000. 
  • Follow MLA style (9th ed.), format the content as a Word Document. Margin: 1 inch on all sides. Alignment: Justified.
  • After completion of the peer review of the full paper and further proceedings, an acceptance mail will be sent to the selected contributors.
