Expression of Interest for Development of MOOCs on SWAYAM Platform in Environmental Studies

The University Grants Commission invites Expressions of Interest from Higher Educational Institutions (HEls) for the development of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in Environmental Studies for the SWAYAM platform.

Eligibility Criteria :

  • A. The applicant must be a faculty member in a duly recognized institute/university/college, holding a Ph.D. and having a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in Environmental Studies or related disciplines.
  • B. Faculty members employed in HE ls which are eligible to receive financial assistance from UGC as per the provisions of the UGC 1956 Act.
  • C. Faculty members are required to submit a consent letter from their respective HEI for offering the online course through SWAYAM as per UGC Credit Framework for Online Learning Courses through Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) Regulations, 2021.

Scope of Work:

The following Environmental Studies courses have been identified for development as a MOOC:

  • 1. Climate Change, Mitigation, and Adaptation Strategies (technological, nature-based, and market-based interventions)
  • 2. Environmental Monitoring and Instrumentation*
  • 3. Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance
  • 4. Environmental Communication and Journalism
  • 5. Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) and Environment *Note: HE ls may engage an industry partner if they so desire

Course Structure :

The initial phase of course development has been structured to include both postgraduate (PG) and undergraduate (UG) level programs, ensuring a balanced approach for skill development and academic rigor. 

  • Courses 1 to 3: To be designed and developed for the postgraduate level, these courses aim to provide advanced knowledge and specialized skills, catering to the evolving needs of industries and academia.
  • Courses 4 & 5: To be designed and developed for the the undergraduate level, these courses focus on foundational knowledge while integrating practical components to enhance employability.

NOTE: The first four courses in this phase are skill-based and employment-oriented, with emphasis on industry relevance and hands-on training to equip students with job-ready competencies. All the above mentioned courses are envisaged as having 3/4 credits, aligned with the National Credit Framework (NCrF).

Submission of Eol:

Eligible institutions and faculty members are requested to submit  their EOI online only at the UGC website on or before 20th May, 2025.
